Cuomo seeks to depose sexual harassment accusers as part of defense against trooper’s lawsuit

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo has once again proven he’s nothing if not persistent.

In response to a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him by a New York State trooper, the disgraced pol has issued subpoenas to five of his 11 accusers, seeking to depose them regarding their claims against him, according to sources close to the case.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo speaks during a news conference at New York's Yankee Stadium on July 26, 2021.

The ex-gov resigned from office in August 2021 following a scathing investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James that found a pattern of sexual misconduct in the executive chamber.

One of the accusers, identified as Trooper 1, filed suit against him for a pattern of inappropriate behavior. She claimed he “placed the palm of his hand on her belly button and slid it across her waist to her right hip, where her gun was holstered,” according to the suit.

Nearly from the day he resigned, Cuomo has sought to clear his name.

The subpoenas, sent in March and April, seek records on communications between the women and state investigators, news media and others, according to lawyer Mariann Wang, who represents two of the women, Alyssa McGrath and Virginia Limmiatis.

The Wall Street Journal first reported news of the subpoenas.

“My clients support all the other brave women who have come forward to hold Cuomo accountable in whatever means or forum,” Wang said in a statement.

“At the same time, it is just unfair to impose obligations and burdens on women who do not have extensive resources and an indemnity from the State – which Cuomo has on both fronts – just to re-litigate issues that were thoroughly examined by the Attorney General. Regardless, we will of course comply with appropriate legal process while ensuring that we also protect our clients against improper burdens or harassment.”

The ex-governor may be reimbursed by the state for his legal fees, a judge ruled in January. He also sits on a $16 million campaign war chest.

Although Cuomo resigned after the AG’s report, he has denied the sexual harassment claims. Rita Glavin, Cuomo’s lawyer, said that she was barred from speaking on the matter despite being quoted in the Journal’s story.
