Raphael Heffron and Aoife Foley highlight the gap between universities’ aspirations to reach net-zero emissions and the material they teach (Nature 607, 32; 2022). To instil the necessary skills and critical thinking in the next generation, we should be applying the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to support the decarbonization of pedagogy.
