When we arrived at Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, we stepped onto a long arrival bridge. The entrance design is spare and clean, flanked by water lilies on either side. As you walk through the corridor, the beautifully framed ocean creates anticipation for the stay ahead.

The hanging sculpture guides your eyes skyward as light beams down on the sand feature. For those anxious to hit the beach, guests are encouraged to dip their toes in the sand upon arrival. Various seating clusters create an elegant living room feel to the lobby area.

The modern hotel boasts a gorgeous rock bar as its check-in desk. Design details feel natural, organic and clean while also celebrating the local culture. The hanging sculpture represents Kanaloa, the god of the sea, emulating the earth, sky, wind and ocean.

Three infinity pools cascade down, with a larger lagoon pool at the ground level. Guests can enjoy the sunset at any level with various seating options, including cabanas, which are available to rent. Unlike many hotels in the area, the pools are open 24 hours a day.

Our next stop on the tour was the spa. Styled as an apothecary experience, the space is lined with beautiful cabinetry from floor to ceiling. Guests are handed a card to fill out their custom blend for treatments, which is kept at the spa for future use.

The villas at the Andaz are the epitome of modern luxury. A remote control slowly opens the privacy screen revealing an oceanfront lanai with a plunge pool. The high-end kitchen has premium Bosch appliances, marble walls and a built-in fridge.

The spacious primary bedroom has crisp, white linens and continues the hotel’s clean, modern aesthetic. Like the living room, it has a view of the ocean and opens to a lanai.

The stunning staircase to the left of the check-in desk brought us to the entrance of Ka’ana Kitchen. The shape of the staircase is inspired by a wa’a (or canoe), which holds cultural significance in Hawaii.

Food is prepared out in the dining area of the Ka’ana Kitchen. You won’t find a breakfast menu for Ka’ana Kitchen, but they offer an impressive $49 per person buffet spread. Modern banquet seating ensures the conversation stays lively between all the guests.

The Feast at Mōkapu is a luau that takes place in a grassy area right by the shoreline, which is timed perfectly with the setting sun. The meal includes 15 locally inspired dishes and unlimited craft cocktails. The elaborate entertainment includes cultural storytelling and fire dancing.

You’ve lucked out if you can score lanai seating during sunset at Morimoto Maui. The Feast at Mōkapu is a few yards away from the restaurant, so you can enjoy bonus entertainment during your meal. Chef Morimoto is known for his creative plating, so get your cameras ready to capture each inventive dish.
