Americans look for medals in men’s slopestyle skiing.

Three Americans are looking to crowd the medal stand at the men’s freestyle skiing slopestyle event, but a Europe-centric field may disrupt the way there.

Nick Goepper would love nothing more than to complete his full rainbow of medals, having won a bronze in 2014 and a silver in 2018. Some of his stiffest competition will come from his American teammates, Alex Hall and Colby Stevenson.

Andri Ragettli, the defending world champion, finished first in qualifications and leads a strong contingent from Switzerland. Birk Ruud of Norway, the gold medal winner in big air, qualified second.

The contest will be the final showing for the slopestyle course, a standout venue — but a temporary one, made of snow — designed to look like a section of the nearby Great Wall.

Its combination of rails, obstacles and jumps has vexed some of the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers already but has also created some stellar Olympic champions, including Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Max Parrot (snowboarding), as well as Mathilde Gremaud (freeskiing), who narrowly beat Eileen Gu in the women’s version of this event on Tuesday.
