The Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlights the value of a biological contribution to the economy (see also B. El-Chichakli et al. Nature 535, 221–223; 2016). As members of the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy, we emphasize the importance of international cross-sectoral bioeconomy policies in mitigating and adapting to climate change.
