California Gov. Newsom blasts Texas, Florida immigrant relocation as ‘reprehensible,’ calls for federal investigation

He’s got a ‘new’ idea.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom called for a federal investigation into immigrant relocation policies from Texas and Florida that have seen thousands of people bused into northern cities.

“Clearly, transporting families, including children, across state lines under false pretenses is morally reprehensible, but it may also be illegal,” Newsom wrote in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Newsom, a Democrat, specifically cited Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to fly about 50 people to Martha’s Vineyard. The group landed on Wednesday.

Multiple immigrants said they were told the flight was going to Boston.

“Accordingly, I strongly urge the (Justice Department) to open an investigation into possible criminal or civil violations of federal law based on this alleged fraudulent scheme,” Newsom wrote.

Over the past several months, thousands of people have poured across the U.S.-Mexico border and claimed refugee status. All refugees seeking asylum are allowed to stay in a new country while their case is decided.

But Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, another Republican, has tired of taking care of the new arrivals and has begun loading people onto buses and sending them to Washington, D.C., New York and Chicago.

After two busloads of people arrived outside Kamala Harris’ house in Washington, Abbott tweeted: “Texas will continue sending migrants to sanctuary cities like D.C. until Biden & Harris do their jobs to secure the border.”

In his letter, Newsom suggested that the political ploy by Abbott and DeSantis may amount to a kidnapping scheme and suggested possible RICO charges.

The Justice Department has not publicly responded to Newsom’s letter.
