Former NFL running back Marion Barber died of heatstroke, medical examiner says

The manner of Barber’s death is listed as an “accident,” according to the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

On June 1, police responded to a welfare concern at an apartment believed to be leased by the 38-year-old in Frisco, just north of Dallas, where Barber was found.

Barber spent seven years in the NFL, six with the Cowboys, before ending his career with the Chicago Bears. He was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round in 2005 out of the University of Minnesota.

“Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down,” the Cowboys said in a statement after his death. “He had a passion for the game and love for his coaches and teammates. Our hearts go out to Marion’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
