Gunman wearing NY Rangers jersey wanted for Queens murder: police

A gunman in a Rangers jersey shot and killed a 27-year-old man on a Queens street last month, police said Friday.

The hockey fan is one of two men being sought for the murder of Temel Philips, who was repeatedly shot near 117th St. and Rockaway Blvd. in South Ozone Park just after 1 a.m. on April 29.

Philips had been shot multiple times all over his body, cops said. Six 9-mm shell casings were recovered at the scene.

EMS rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, but he could not be saved. Philips had no identification on him when he was found and it took cops some time to get his name.

Detectives learned that Philips lived in Queens Village, about 9 miles from where the shooting occurred. A motive for the killing was not immediately released.

Witnesses saw two men running from the scene in opposite directions. No arrests have been made.

After scouring the area for surveillance footage, cops on Friday released an image of one of the two suspects in the hopes that someone recognizes him.

The alleged gunman is Black with a thin build. He was wearing a surgical mask and what appears to be a shower cap besides the Rangers jersey and blue jeans, cops said.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
