Hunter Biden tax evasion plea deal hits snag over gun issue

Hunter Biden’s plea deal over tax violations fell apart on Wednesday for the time being after a judge nixed it out of concerns over a gun possession charge that was subject to a related agreement.

The results of a years-long investigation into the presidential son’s business dealings could be at stake.

Hunter Biden had been about to enter a plea on misdemeanor charges of failure to pay more than $100,000 in taxes from more than $1.5 million in income in 2017 and 2018 in return for two years of probation.

Then in June it was found that Biden had possessed a Colt Cobra .38 Special for 11 days in October 2018 — which was a felony for him, a known drug user, to have — and was charged with possession of a firearm. He had reached another agreement on that charge, which is what sparked a federal judge’s concern.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump-appointed U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika expressed concern about some of the language in that agreement and told the attorneys to go back to the table and talk it out.
