Marjorie Taylor Greene officially kicked out of Freedom Caucus

A member of the House Freedom Caucus confirmed Wednesday that Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been kicked out of the conservative group due to her repeated “attacks” on fellow GOP colleagues.

Representative Ken Buck, R-Colo., made the statement during an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press NOW.”

“She’s not a member of the Freedom Caucus and she shouldn’t be in the future,” he said.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., speaks during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Greene, known for her controversial outspokenness and support of former President Donald Trump, becomes the first lawmaker to be ousted from the group since it was established by Republicans in 2015.

Earlier reports indicated that a vote took place on June 23 to remove Greene from the caucus due to an altercation with Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo. in which Greene referred to her colleague as “a little bitch,” as well as her vocal support for Kevin McCarthy’s successful speaker bid.

However, there had been confusion about Greene’s status in the past two weeks, as Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Pa., declined to comment on the matter. Greene also claimed that no one had informed her of her removal.

No, I haven’t talked with [Perry] about any of that,” Greene said. “I’m mostly focused on the work I’m doing and serving my district, not interested in any drama.”

While Greene and her team have yet to address Buck’s confirmation of her removal, but it was reported that she did not attend a Freedom Caucus meeting on Tuesday night.

Buck, known for his more restrained approach compared to other members of the Freedom Caucus, emphasized that Greene’s removal was based on her repeated attacks on fellow caucus members.

“She has consistently attacked other members of the Freedom Caucus in an irresponsible way and as a result of that she was kicked out of the Freedom Caucus,” Buck told NBC News.
