New York State Senator Jessica Ramos flames AOC on Twitter, says the congresswoman is “barely present in the community”

Progressive state Senator Jessica Ramos unleashed a Twitter storm on New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday night, accusing her of being absent in her district – the same argument the representative used to ouster her predecessor.

The social media broadsides started after a medical student chided Ocasio-Cortez for refusing to meet with health policy experts to discuss a British-style socialized medical plan, because her staff told them: “We’re not doing healthcare right now.”

The congresswoman apologized Sunday afternoon and offered to listen to their pitch.

That’s when Ramos, stinging from being snubbed by the democratic socialist rep, chimed in.

“Maybe if you spent more time in your office and with your staff, you’d know what goes on,” Ramos, whose Queens district overlaps with Ocasio-Cortez, tweeted. “Just saying that it’d be nice if you breathed our air.”

Ocasio-Cortez famously beat long-time incumbent Joe Crowley in 2018, flogging him in ads for being absent from the district.

“That a Democrat who takes corporate money, profits off foreclosure, doesn’t live here, doesn’t send his kids to our schools, doesn’t drink our water or breathe our air cannot possibly represent us,” she said on the campaign video.

Crowley lived in Washington, D.C. with his family.

As the keyboard war raged on, political pundit Errol Louis weighed in that “The fact that this has gone public suggests private diplomacy has failed.”

Ramos, a Democrat who was endorsed by the Working Families Party, responded:

“I gave up texting her a while back, and as petitioning unfolded, I reached out through staff and requested a meeting. I have not spoken to my congressperson in months. Maybe more than a year? What else is it I’m supposed to do?”

Ramos denied that her flame war was the soft launch of a bid to run for Ocasio-Cortez’s seat.
