Walking into the lobby, we immediately noticed the light ginger flower signature scent and the calming instrumental music. It’s particularly welcoming, as is the friendly and attentive staff. While you’re checking in, take note of the decor details that lean into the building’s history, such as the banker lamps and the commissioned artwork behind the front desk.

Art is a big deal at The Langham, Boston. This portrait of John Singleton Copley is displayed in the lobby near the concierge desk. A QR code is Located below the portrait, allowing guests to take a self-guided virtual art tour throughout the property. In addition to a page about the collection, videos from the artists themselves pop up where they talk about their paintings and what inspired them.

The hotel partnered with the Copley Society, one of the oldest nonprofits in the U.S., to help curate the art in the hotel and to enhance the hotel’s relationship with the nonprofit. As a result, the hotel created Artists’ Lane, where a special gallery of artwork is on display for six months at a time. Guests and gallery customers can come in and see or purchase the art, and all the proceeds go back to the Copley Society.

All of the standard rooms have the same design elements, which combine history with a bit of New England flair. There is artwork that represents Boston’s history, whether it be vintage banking notes or a historic Red Sox print. The chairs and pillows are upholstered in the same material that men’s suits were made of in the 1920s when the building first opened, and the minibar is in a cabinet that looks like an old traveler’s trunk.

The chairman suite, which has a separate dining and living area, is one of the most luxurious rooms in the hotel. With a piano and a roll-top banker’s desk from the 1920s, this room has a feeling of vintage opulence. The windows are also a unique feature; due to the historic nature of the building, floors above the fifth floor had to be built with slanted windows so they could not be visible from street level.

Most of the hotel’s bathrooms only have showers, while a few have a shower and tub combo. The chairman suite is the only option with a separate deep soaking tub. It’s perfect for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing.

The indoor pool, which has plenty of natural light, is impressive simply because many Boston hotels don’t have a pool. A mural by local artist Silvia Lopez Chavez adds an attractive focal point to what would otherwise be an empty wall. Her inspiration for the piece was Post Office Square Park; the flowers in the mural are the same type of flowers that bloom in the park, and the arches represent the arches in the park.

The fitness center at The Langham, Boston is fully equipped with all the cardio equipment you might expect, including Pelotons and treadmills. But for the health aficionados who need even more tech in their workouts, there are three Echelon Reflect Touch Smart Fitness Mirrors available that allow guests access to more than 2,000 fitness classes in the open studio.

The Fed is the newest dining venue at The Langham, Boston and features an impressive cocktail program. The bar manager is known for making many of the ingredients for the specialty cocktails, such as limoncello. Additionally, the room features more than 90 pieces of original artwork produced by the Copley Society.

Grana has so many interesting decor details it’s hard to know where to look first. The original terrazzo flooring, towering ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and commissioned paintings featuring former bank presidents are all stunning. The water glasses, which are hand-blown on the Cape, are also a nice touch.

Following the full property renovation, The Langham, Boston joined the ranks and added its own Langham Club on the eighth floor. Offering a variety of food and drink to guests staying in executive club rooms and suites (although guests staying in standard rooms can pay a daily fee for access), the club is a welcoming oasis. The in-house baked cookies are especially delicious and something not to be missed.

Every Langham Club has a Writer’s Corner to pay homage to the famous writers who spent time at The Langham, London. The Boston property continues the tradition within its new Langham Club. For those who might never have seen one, this nifty little device is a typewriter – it’s what was used to write letters before emails and text messages.

Need a quick pick-me-up? The afternoon candy buffet in the Langham Club will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth. You can even take some back to your room with cute little to-go containers if you’re too shy to stuff your face in the club.

This pink vintage phone booth is both an adorable spot for photos and a nod to The Langham, London. During the Christmas season, guests can call to hear a message from Santa. The flower decorations are changed out to complement the season.
