Another day, another protest outside Sen. Schumer’s home in Brooklyn.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) shrugged off conservative handwringing over pro-choice protests targeting Supreme Court justices who are poised to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
“That’s the American way, to peacefully protest is OK,” Schumer said.
Some conservatives have criticized protesters for recently gathering outside the suburban Washington D.C. home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and marching to the nearby home of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Schumer said that’s an everyday thing in liberal brownstone Brooklyn, where everyone has an opinion about everything.
Schumer said he is regularly the target of protesters who gather outside his apartment building on Prospect Park West in Park Slope to object to one stance or another that he has taken.
“My house, there’s protests three, four times a week outside my house,” Schumer added with a dismissive shrug.
Right on cue, Schumer’s cell phone started ringing in the middle of the impromptu gathering, giving the powerful Democrat the chance to double down on his point.
He reported it was his wife, Iris Weinshall, on the line.
“That’s my wife. Sorry,” said with a smile. “Maybe there’s a protest outside. But, so as long as they are peaceful, that’s OK with me.”
