Supreme Court rejects Trump bid to prevent Congress from accessing tax returns

The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for a House committee to access Donald Trump’s tax returns, rejecting an appeal from the former president.

In an unsigned two-sentence order, the court said it had “denied” Trump’s appeal and vacated a pause that Chief Justice John Roberts placed on the proceeding three weeks ago.

Roberts had temporarily blocked Congress’ efforts to obtain Donald Trump’s tax returns while the court reviewed the issue.

Trump had appealed for an administrative stay at the nation’s top court after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found the House Ways and Means Committee should receive the tax papers.
