Trump-backed Bo Hines thinks ‘banana republics’ are found in shopping malls

Hopefully he doesn’t send Old Navy to war.

North Carolina congressional candidate Robert “Bo” Hines revealed during an interview with radio host John Fredericks that when he hears the term Banana Republic, the retail chain famous for selling sensibly prices khakis comes to mind.

The ex-North Carolina State football player — who’s endorsed by former president Donald Trump — was speaking about last week’s FBI search of Trump’s Florida estate, where the Justice Department said confidential records were being improperly kept.

Critics have compared those actions to that of a banana republic, which Collins Dictionary defines as a pejorative for “poor countries that are politically unstable.”

Hines has a different take.

“I think that’s an insult to Banana Republics across the country,” said Hines.

At first, Fredericks grinned, seeming to approve of where his guest was going. Then things headed south.

“At least the manager of Banana Republic, unlike our president, knows where he is and why he’s there and what he’s doing,” Hines continued on Friday’s “John Frederick’s Show.”

Fredericks appeared increasingly uncomfortable as Hines continued to ramble.

“I mean, we have a president right now that doesn’t know where he is and know who he is or what time it is,” the GOP candidate said on a clip posted to YouTube by Carolina Forward on Tuesday.

He said the country needs to consider defunding the FBI and IRS under the watch of President Biden.

The 26-year-old conservative ran away with the Republican primary in May. He faces Democrat Wiley Nickel in November to represent North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District. Hines’ campaign later called their candidate’s comments “a joke.”

Hines isn’t the only former football player the 45th president is endorsing in November. Trump also threw his weight behind Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker, who was a star running back at the University of Georgia. His campaign has also been a bit bananas at times, including Walker’s wondering aloud why there are still apes if evolution is real.
