Biden trumpets booming jobs report, vows to curb raging inflation

President Biden boasted of another blockbuster jobs report on Friday and vowed to curb raging inflation that has soured Americans on his economic plans.

After government figures showed the economy added a robust 390,000 new jobs in May, Biden said he has laid the foundation for an enduring boom that will benefit working people.

“We’ve laid an economic foundation that’s historically strong,” he said. “Now we’re moving forward to a new moment where we can build on that foundation, build a future of stable, steady growth.”

He touted that employers have added an eye-popping 8.7 million jobs since he took office. The economy has regained almost all the jobs lost in the crushing downturn caused by the COVID pandemic.

But Biden conceded that the public remains spooked by spiraling prices for everything from gas to rent that have come with the post-pandemic boom.

“Even with today’s good news, I know a lot of Americans remain anxious,” he said.

The 79-year-old leader blamed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for contributing to massive price hikes at the pump and the grocery aisles.

He acknowledged that many people blame him for not relieving the problems.

“Joe, what are you going to do to get (prices) down?” he said, putting himself in the place of an everyday American. “I remain committed to doing everything i can to blunt the impact on American families down.”

Flashing his working-class roots, Biden suggested he knows how families live from paycheck to paycheck.

“My goal is: at the end of the month families have a little more breathing room than they did at the beginning,” he said.

Biden brushed off a reporter’s question about reports that Tesla billionaire Elon Musk vowed to cut 10% of his company’s workforce because he has a “super bad feeling” about the economy.

The president ticked off a list of corporations that are adding jobs, including Tesla competitors Ford and Chrysler. Then he mocked Musk for his space travel ambitions.

“Lot’s of luck on his trip to the moon,” Biden quipped.
