Eminem shares teaser for new album ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’

Eminem has a new album coming this summer, his first in more than four years, the rapper announced in a teaser video posted to social media Thursday night.

“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” was previewed in a 30-second trailer for a fictional show called “Detroit Murder Files,” clearly spoofing true crime series “Unsolved Mysteries.”

The clip tells the story of how Em’s alter ego meets a bloody death and asks, “Who killed Slim Shady?”

“Through his complex, tongue twisting and oft criticized rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” the trenchcoat-clad narrator says in the introduction. “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics might have ultimately led to his demise.”

Fellow rapper 50 Cent, who was signed by Eminem’s Shady Records in 2002 and has remained one of Em’s best friends, makes a brief cameo in the clip.

With a tongue-in-cheek emotional delivery, 50 suggests that Slim is “not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”

Another man with a blurred out face, giving a confessional to the camera, says, “I knew it was just a matter of time for Slim,” before leaning out of frame and accidentally revealing himself to be Eminem.

Last month, Eminem’s frequent collaborator Dr. Dre announced the upcoming album while appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” explaining that Eminem said it was “OK” for him to share the news.

“The Death of Slim Shady” will mark Eminem’s 12th studio album, following his Billboard 200 chart-topping “Music to Be Murdered By,” from 2020.

The 15-time Grammy Award-winner made the official announcement after his Thursday appearance at the opening of the 2024 NFL Draft, held in his hometown of Detroit.

Eminem walked onstage with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and helped fire up the crowd of roughly 275,000, which set an NFL Draft attendance record.
