Mayor Adams’ administration gives Trump Org. permit to host Saudi-tied tournament at NYC golf course

Former President Donald Trump’s company has gotten the green light from Mayor Adams’ administration to host a golf tournament in the Bronx this fall bankrolled by the Saudi Arabian government, a city official familiar with the matter confirmed Friday.

The Trump Organization secured the permit to hold the women’s tournament, part of the Aramco Team Series, at its Ferry Point course in Throgs Neck in October, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The permit was first reported by The New York Times.

A spokeswoman for the Trump Organization did not immediately return a request for comment. Fabien Levy, a spokesman for Adams, declined to comment.

The Aramco tournament is in part funded by the Saudi government. The event’s title sponsor, Aramco, is the country’s state-owned oil producer.

Trump faced a barrage of criticism from families of 9/11 victims and human rights activists for hosting the LIV Golf Series, another Saudi-tied tournament, at his company’s course in Bedminster, N.J., earlier this summer.

The optics of allowing Trump to hold a second Saudi-backed golf event — this time in his native New York City — could prove problematic for Adams.

But a second municipal government official familiar with the matter told the Daily News that the city’s contract with the Trump Organization precludes it from blocking the permit for the Saudi-linked tournament.

“Contractually, the city cannot unreasonably withhold approval,” the official said.
